Working group – Green spaces

Initiated in March 2010, this working group introduces reforms into the management of projects relating to green spaces. Consisting of elected councillors, citizens and staff from the green spaces department, the group works on four areas:

  • Choosing maintenance methods that respect the environment ("sustainable mowing", alternative mulching and weeding, alternative pest management, alternative turf...)
  • Adapting practices to suit different natural spaces while developing each one
  • Taking action to preserve animal and plant life (wildlife corridors, protecting bees etc.)
  • Restoring certain green spaces

  • Conserving, managing, developing and diversifying plant life (creating a tree charter, creating dry gardens, establishing plant collections etc.)
  • Accompanying the town's historical and cultural heritage (green spaces themed according to the site, accompanying green spaces with works of art, discovery trail along the banks of the Loire, photo exhibition on biodiversity etc.)
  • Preserving, passing on and developing the skills, expertise and art of gardening

  • Informing the public (floral tourist trail, workshops at the future heritage orchard, greenhouse open days, seasonal advice etc.)
  • Ensuring equality (floral decorations in each neighbourhood, mobile flower facilities etc.)
  • Managing and integrating public feedback
  • Developing social initiatives (family gardens, discovery workshops for school children etc.)

  • Justifying costs
  • Optimising value for money (setting up differentiated management of green spaces etc.)
  • Managing resources optimally and sensibly (equipment, products, water conservation, reduction in CO2 and pesticides etc.)
