Working group – Rivers

Working group – Rivers

Background

Cosne-Cours-sur-Loire is lucky enough to be located at the confluence of the Loire and the Nohain, but the latter suffers from various sources of pollution.

Objectives

Based on this observation, a "Rivers" working group consisting of residents of the banks of the Nohain and members of the Citizens working group and the town hall technical department was put together in August 2009. The head of the "La Cosnoise" fishing association and the representative of the district council department with responsibility for agriculture and the Nièvre forest are permanent guest members.

Working together, they have identified a number of actions to be taken, in order of importance:

  • Cleaning the Nohain
  • Developing the Nohain

In a second phase, the following points will be discussed:

  • Developing the banks of the Loire
  • Cleaning and developing the stream that flows under the Cosne-Cours-sur-Loire town centre

Examples of actions taken

The Rivers working group has visited the area around the Nohain and, confirming its pollution, organised a programme to develop and clean up the river.

The Municipality has also instituted the opening of the valves to reduce siltation and increase the flow of water.
